PCAM Chair Judges Ivor Novello Awards

PCAM Chair Jonathan Goldstein has been delighted to be on the judging panel for this year’s Ivor Novello Award for Best Film Score. The panel comprises leading film and TV composers as well as representatives from BAC&S (British Academy of Composers and Songwriters) and PRS.

Jonathan reports that the process is taken very seriously and it’s no breeze! The panel watched, listened and discussed over 30 submissions in one grueling sitting. It was a long day and the discussions prompted some interesting and lively debates, but there was general agreement about the selections for the initial shortlist.

From there, the panel watched all short-listed films at home in full and reassembled for another session during which the final nominations were decided on. Selecting winners out of such a high standard of work and variety of styles was hard but it was reassuring to see so much great film music by British composers.

Of course, no clues about the winners can be given in advance of the ceremony, which will take place on May 21 at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
