Dear PCAM Member,
The organisation Help Musicians does a great deal of important work to support people in the music industry, and they will be referenced at the virtual seminar on mental health in the industry that PCAM and the PRS are planning to hold early next year, following up on our very successful and oversubscribed event in 2019.
Help Musicians is behind a series of podcasts called “Elevate Music”, and their latest episode (https://audioboom.com/posts/7734474-songwriters-and-composers-benji-merrison-pete-glenister-athena-pite) focuses on composers’ and songwriters’ wellbeing, and also signposts PCAM in the resources section of the podcast.
The episode looks at the specific problems that songwriters and composers currently face in their work. Host Lucy Heyman speaks to media composer Benji Morrison (a member of the Composers Wellbeing Collective) and to Pete Glenister about their experiences as music creators, and Athena Pite from the PRS Members Fund describes the services they offer to support musicians.

The Elevate Music podcasts focus on a range of different themes including mental and vocal health, hearing problems, stage fright, drugs and alcohol, creativity on demand, social media, the challenges of touring, stress and coping, and many more. Each episode focuses on a guest musician as well as featuring other artists and the voices of relevant experts.
In July Elevate Music released three special episodes on Covid, looking at how the crisis has affected musicians and how they’ve been sustaining their health and their creativity. The specials featured interviews with Mike Christie (G4), Nemone Mexatas (BBC 6 Music), Mike Christie, Rick Leon James, MIRI and Lauren Housley alongside Music Support, the Musicians’ Union and Help Musicians.
