NEW THREAT TO MEDIA MUSIC COMPOSERS

Dear PCAM Member,

The Ivors Academy and the Musicians’ Union have raised concerns about a partnership between Epidemic Sound and Adobe that highlights a trend to undermine the ability of composers to make a living through royalties.

The article published by the Ivors Academy is here: https://ivorsacademy.com/news/the-ivors-academy-and-the-musicians-union-warn-that-a-new-wave-of-buyout-deals-damage-composers-rights-and-careers/

It is understood that composers signing up for the deal will receive an upfront fee but will have to relinquish all future royalties.  UK members of PRS who sign up to this deal might not realise that they are breaching the terms of their agreement with PRS as Epidemic’s Terms and Conditions state that you can’t sign up with them if you are a member of a performing rights organisation.

This deal is thoroughly depressing for the media music composer community and PCAM would like to highlight that if these deals become the norm, the livelihood of all of our members will be under threat.  We encourage all our members to carefully read the terms and conditions of any contract and if in doubt, refer to the PCAM Helpdesk for support at info@pcam.co.uk.

Best regards,

The PCAM Committee
